INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CHALLENGES CONFRONTING UNIVERSITY MUSEUM COLLECTIONS AND CONTEMPORARY CURATORIAL PRACTICE IN SOUTHEAST ASIA (PART 2), 15 DECEMBER – 17 DECEMBER 2010
Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah (MGTF), USM is pleased to announce that it will organize an International Conference On Challenges Confronting University Museum Collections And Contemporary Curatorial Practice In Southeast Asia (Part 2) from 15 December to 17 December 2010. The conference will be a second part of the initial conference held in Manila form 20 January – 22 January 2010. The aim of the conference is to;
1. To perform as a regional platform for the development of academic, research and professional curatorial collaborations between the participating institutions.2. To facilitate sharing and exchange of expertise, research and collection resources.3. To encourage discourses that is pertinent to contemporary curatorial practice, museum and collection management, exhibition design and technology, as well as community engagement with university museums.4. To augment scholarly debates that will collectively place the participating institutions at the forefront of contemporary curatorial practice and collection management.
Central to the conference agenda will be;
Mapping • Nodal and rhizomic systems of regional engagement based, operating on collective or modular initiatives.• Raising profile of university museums within and beyond hosting universities.• Regional platform as tool to facilitate discourse and knowledge on university museums.
Modalities • Developing common tools of engagement – developing standards; publications and web-based initiatives; conferences, curatorial residencies and workshops; joint-research and other projects.• Innovative and sustainable strategies in mobilising collections and curatorial interests.
Hopefully the conference will further articulate and broaden the agenda adopted in the Manila session into a range of strategies and programmes.
